Our Medicine
Vis Medicatrix Naturae - The Healing Power of Nature" -Hippocrates 400 BC
According to this doctrine, the human body contains the power to re-balance and heal itself. A naturopathic physician's practice of medicine stems from this ancient teaching.
Naturopathic doctors receive their training from federally recognized, four-year, postgraduate level Naturopathic Medical schools. Although naturopathic training encompasses the same basic bio-medical science that conventional medical practice embraces, the approach to health and disease differs considerably. Naturopathic doctors provide primary and adjunctive health care to support all ages and conditions. History, physical exams and laboratory tests are used to diagnose and monitor conditions and treatments. The physicians at One Family Medicine refer to specialists when appropriate and have great history with co-managing patients with other healthcare practioners.
In addition to diagnosing medical conditions with lab testing and imaging, NDs are practiced in identifying and working with imbalances seen within the body. The goal is to eliminate obstacles which may be preventing the body from re-balancing and thus healing itself.
Treatments are chosen on an individual basis. Approaching patients as individuals increases the efficacy of all treatments. Treatments are derived from time tested, clinically successful and researched natural medicines. Such treatments include, but are not limited to, nutrition, botanical medicine, homeopathy, hydrotherapy, physical manipulation and biotherapeutic drainage In addition, NDs have the ability to prescribe from a complete pharmaceutical formulary when the need presents itself.
